Angel Falls Boat Tour
After our rafting trip, we flew to Ciudad Bolevar from Barinas with a connection through
Caracas. Arrived Ciudad Bolevar 10pm at night on August 16th, 2000, and shared a taxi with other good people to
Hotel Caracas. Morning of August 17th, arranged the Angel Falls boat tour through the agency at Hotel Caracas.
The negotiated price for the tour was $220/person inclusive of roundtrip airfare Ciudad Bolevar to Canaima. A good
part of the morning was spent waiting for a charter flight to take us to Canaima.

Outside Ciudad Airport sits Jimmie Angel's airplane in which he flew
over Auyantepui looking for gold in 1937, instead discovered the falls, which was then named Angel Falls after
him. Jimmie landed on top of Auyantepui (Mountain of the God of Evil) but was unable to lift off, and spent the
next 11 days roughing it through jungles to reach civilization. |

We reached Canaima late afternoon, and after paying a $12 National Park Entrance fee we
were joined by our tour guide.
We ate lunch in Canaima, before starting our journey up the river Carrao to the camp near Isla
Orquidea 55 km away.
