Whitewater rafting
There is no rafting in Venezuela, that is better than the trips offered by Arassari Treks. The rivers we rafted were the Acequias (duration about 1 ½ hours) and the Sinigis. The Acequias is a fun class III river with bouncy rapids. The Singinis (duration about 4 hours) is an international class river which is technically difficult (Class IV+) and promises continuous excitement and "hold on" drops. The water is clear, clean, the temperature is refreshing and comfortable at around 30C. Perfect conditions for rafting.
We flew into Caracas on August 15th 11:40am, quickly went through customs, walked 400 yards to the domestic terminal and bought tickets to Barinas. Emmanuel of Bum Bum Tours, picked us up at Barinas airport and drove us to the rafting camp. The scenery on the one hour drive from Barinas to the white water rafting campamente reminded me of parts of India (such as the road to Vikarabad from Hyderabad during the monsoons).

trip. Peter Dawson, from New Zealand, the senior guide, readies the raft for the trip. Travel Tip: Things to bring for the raft trip. Canvas shoes with laces for rafting (they will get wet!!!), shorts/swim wear, and a disposable camera to take on the raft. |
| The campamente is comfortable, clean and quiet. Can get a bit cold at night but requires no more than a sweat pant, and a sweat shirt to stay warm. |
