Whitewater

Fast paced, non-stop excitement.

Peter Dawson, our guide from New Zealand introduces us to various maneouvers. The one I particularly liked was when the entire crew moved to the back of the raft then went down a raging rapid with the front of the raft hoisted 8 feet up in the air slapping the white water. Apparently a refreshment advertisement was shot in this dramatic way down the same rapid. Standing up in the raft while going over a rapid is one other way to add excitement to your trip.

Approach this drop sideways and you might swim. Peter holds the raft stationary with a tow rope right in the middle of this rapid and by throwing ourselves onto one side of the boat we practice how to keep it from flipping.

Just avoid those rocks. 15 kms of rapids. Pictures taken with a waterproof disposable camera. Pass the rapid, hang on to the paddle with one hand, grab the camera with the other, snap a picture quickly because we are moving away.

A little practice in the white water so we don't lose our cool if the raft flips. Feet pointing downstream, head up. If the current sucks you in, hold your breath until you surface.
